Namibian Slow Drive

Sandy, our travel agent was correct when she said "Nambia just slaps differently". We had photographic experiences that could be worthy of National Geographic publications. That was not because of our camera quality, but the sightings.

Arriving in the capital city, Windhoek, we chose to stay for 1 night which we used to go through our travel packs, ensuring that we were on the right track and well prepared. The distances are vast, so we conceded the men would share the driving and the ladies navigated.
After a yummy breakfast, we were all set for our grand Nambian experience... car was loaded, and off we meandered to Sosusvlei, where we spent 3 nights in pure bliss. The ever-changing dramatic sand dunes, the earth tones of the desert, the starry skies, and a remoteness filled our souls with a reconnection with nature that we never felt before.

Before we knew it, it was time to leave and head to the coastal town of Swakopmund. Here we stayed for 2 nights and did some awesome activities like kayaking amongst seals and exploring the massive dunes that met the ocean at Sandwich Harbour. We got some really amazing snaps here... loads of drama-filled pics.

Our highlight was Etosha National Park where we stayed for 4 nights. Imagine having this memory etched on your soul...
In the distance, it appeared as if the shadows came to life and were walking closer to us. As they approached, the ghost figures were elephants that had already had a sunrise bath in a nearby salt pan and were heading for some shade. Hot on their heels was a lone lion, who was also seeking some shade. This was a spectacular sighting and a great way to start our day during a morning game drive in Etosha National Park. Nothing could top the experience we had at Ethosa National Park.

This is a funny story that must be shared... hahahahaha! On our back to Windhoek, we had a flat tire. Now, we were in the middle of nowhere, it was hot and neither of the guys had changed a tire before. Frazzled, none of us could remember the briefing we received when we collected the car and both men made numerous attempts to jack the SUV up and then get the tire off. We had unpacked the entire car to help with the weight... eventually, after 2 hours, we were back on the road with a very suspect tire... there was lots of laughter and many snapshots... fun times!
